Supporting young people in New Barnet, East Barnet and Lyonsdown Parishes
The object of the charity is, for the public benefit, to advance the education of children and adults resident in the Parishes of New Barnet, East Barnet and Lyonsdown, by making grants or loans to beneficiaries for any of the following purposes:
1. to assist them to pursue a course of study at any school, university, college of education, or other institution of further (including professional and technical) education approved for the purpose by the trustees
2. to enable them to participate in extra-curricular activities, educational trips or travel abroad to pursue their education
3. to assist their entry into a profession, trade or calling
4. assisting in the provision of a Sunday School
We will fund any organisation undertaking charitable activities that meet the objects described above. You do not need to be a registered charity. We will support the costs of a specific project or on-going costs for up to three years. This includes staff salaries, overheads and capital items if they have a clear educational benefit. We will also consider applications from individuals requesting funding to support their own education or development.
When assessing applications we are more likely to shortlist work that can demonstrate some of the following:
· Applications from more than one organisation who are collaborating on a project
· Projects that create benefit across all three Parish areas
· Strong appreciation of and attention to safeguarding issues
· Projects that are open, accessible and inclusive
· Projects with clear deliverables and supporting action plans
· Benefiting people from disadvantaged backgrounds in pursuing their educational needs
Projects that support education related to the Christian faith or Christian values
The total of grants we will make annually will not exceed £80,000. The maximum single organisational grant we would fund is £40,000 for a single year. Grant amounts may be spread over one, two or three years. For example, we could agree a grant of £120,000 to cover a major project for a three year period.
Application deadlines for 2025:
19th May 2025
13th October 2025
The committee reviewing applications meets twice a year, therefore it could take time to review your application.
At each meeting we will read and consider all the applications we have received since the last date. On some occasions we may contact you for further clarification regarding your application. We will contact you to let you know whether you have been successful. Please avoid contacting us during this period to find out about your application as this takes up our time and resources. If you are unsuccessful we will give you feedback. However, please understand our funding decisions are final.
We have limited funds to distribute and we therefore cannot fund some types of work. We are unlikely to support applications:
· That directly replace funding for services which are the primary responsibility of statutory funders, such as local and central government and health authorities
· From organisations which have fewer than three people on their governing body e.g. trustee board/management committee
· For something that has already taken place
· For general unspecific appeals
· From applicants who have been rejected by us in the last 12 months
· Where organisations have significant unrestricted reserves of their own
· Where organisations are in serious financial difficulty
· From large national organisations which enjoy widespread support #
- From organisations who have been subject to safeguarding or child protection concerns within the last five years
